I'm a Journalist in Korea 13: The Dancing Museum

I  recently had the privilege to attend a children's ballet presentation entitled, "The Dancing Museum" presented by the Seoul Ballet Theater. What a treat it was!

Employing today's digital media art technology the audience, which included children and their parents, was completely and fully engaged as so many famous paintings literally came alive right before our eyes! Characters seemed to jump right out of each painting and onto the stage. It was thrilling. Just like magic. The main actor found herself overcome with joy as she engaged with each new character. She, and we, learned so much from each one.

The ballet tells the story of a museum curator and employee who find themselves magically engaged with art masterpieces by famous artists such as Leonardo da Vinci and Edgar Degas. The children's gaze never left the stage. The ballet production simply held the audiences' attention throughout, from beginning to end. You could see it in their faces as they watched. There was a sense of mystery, intrigue and surprise which inspired their curiosity as we engaged in one masterpiece after the next in eager anticipation. The upbeat musical selections, a pleasing mix of contemporary and classical works, well complemented each beautiful masterpiece giving excellent support to each new scene. In fact, the ballet itself incorporated modern contemporary dance and classical ballet. There was an air of fun and amusement too adding to the experience.

At the end of the show some of the characters met the children in the lobby for a much appreciated photo session with so many wide eyed children, many of whom now seemed to want to become ballet dancers too!

The Seoul Ballet Theater company was founded in 1995, the first private professional company in Korea. It has been presenting wonderful productions since 1995 with a special desire to inspire a love of, and to educate about, dance. This performance held true to the mission.
